This course will get you up and running with Microsoft SharePoint, covering everything from the basics of the interface to creating your first site.

I. Introduction and Fundamentals

 

  • SharePoint Overview: Understanding what SharePoint is, its use cases (intranet, collaboration, document management), and its role within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
  • SharePoint Environments: Distinguishing between SharePoint Online (Cloud) and SharePoint Server (On-Premises).
  • Site Types and Structure: Overview of Team Sites (connected to Microsoft 365 Groups) and Communication Sites. Understanding site hierarchy, start pages, and navigation.

 

II. Site Creation and Customization

 

  • Creating Sites: Steps for creating new Team and Communication Sites, including using site designs/templates.
  • Managing Pages: Creating, editing, and publishing Modern Pages, understanding page layouts, and using various Web Parts (text, images, file viewer, quick links, highlighted content, etc.).
  • Branding and Look: Applying custom themes and changing the site’s look and feel.
  • Site Navigation: Configuring site menus and hub site navigation.

 

III. Content Management: Lists and Libraries

 

  • Document Libraries: Creating and configuring document libraries, uploading files, and understanding Document Versioning and Check In/Check Out.
  • SharePoint Lists: Creating custom lists (e.g., Contact lists, Calendars, Tasks) and customising list forms.
  • Views and Filtering: Creating, managing, and customising list and library views (personal and public) using sorting, filtering, and grouping.
  • Metadata Management: Understanding Site Columns and Content Types for consistent content organisation. Leveraging the Term Store and Managed Metadata for enterprise-wide taxonomy.

 

IV. Security and Permissions

 

  • SharePoint Security Model: Understanding Permissions (Full Control, Edit, Read, etc.) and the concept of Permission Inheritance.
  • User and Group Management: Working with SharePoint Groups and Microsoft 365 Groups for assigning access.
  • Controlling Access: Granting unique permissions to sites, lists, libraries, folders, or individual items.
  • External Sharing: Configuring and managing policies for sharing content with external users.
